Diabetes related lower limb amputations are almost always preventable. Unfortunately with a lack of knowledge, support and significant stigma surrounding the disease, lower limb amputations still occur. The loss of a limb is associated with a high risk of mortality and can have significant negative implications on a person’s socio-economic status, independence and over all quality of life. For our vulnerable populations these implications are compounding. Our vision is to reduce lower limb amputations through increasing awareness, developing best practices and addressing the stigma. This can only be successfully done through collaboration.
